How should I finance the last phase of my life?

We live, we grow older. That is a fact of life. Unfortunately it is also a fact of life that growing older generally goes hand-in-hand with a need for extra support. We are often asked how best to organise this, both practically and financially. Will you organise the support yourself rather than utilising social support facilities? And if you do, will you ask what you should take into account? What will it cost you? And what are the shorter and longer term fiscal consequences?

  • Which care costs must we pay ourselves, and which will be paid by our care insurer or the municipality (Social Support Act - WMO)?
  • What criteria must I meet to be considered for an individual-related budget?
  • Is one’s own contribution towards the costs of care fiscally deductible?
  • How can we avoid having to pay a high own contribution for nursing care?
  • How can we make it fiscally and financially possible to stay in our own home and arrange 24-hour nursing?
